Factors You Should Consider Before Hiring a Boom Lift

Posted on

Aerial equipment comes in handy during construction of tall buildings.  It can also be used in other projects, such as when repairing electric cables and road construction. Boom lifts are some of the most reliable aerial equipment you can use.  You do not have to buy one; there are several companies that hire the lifts. However, there are several factors you should consider before you hire a boom lift.

The Elevation Required

You should check the height of the job – i.e. the maximum elevated level your operators will have to reach. This factor will enable you to choose among the various types of boom lifts. There are different types and models of boom lifts. Telescopic boom lifts have some of the highest vertical reach. If your work does not require much height, there are several smaller options to consider. You do not have to pay highly for large equipment, yet a smaller lift at a cheaper rate would do the job.

Required Capacity

Always check the operating capacity of the boom lift before you hire. The operating capacity in this context is the maximum weight the lift can carry. This is an important factor of consideration if your work will involve carrying of heavy equipment and materials.

Horizontal Reach

Another important factor of consideration is the horizontal reach. Again, different boom lifts have different capacities in terms of their horizontal reach. If your project involves terrains with obstacles where only horizontal capabilities will enable operators to access the location, then you should go for a boom lift with maximum horizontal reach.

Measurement

The location or site of operation should inform the right measurement for your boom lift. If you plan to use the boom lift indoors, then make sure you choose a lift that will fit the ceilings and doorways. If it is for outdoors, you can check if the measurements fit trailers and gates.

Operators

Just the same way there are different types of lifts, there are also various types of operators. Some operators can only operate specific types of boom lifts – or may not have the required qualifications. After considering all the above factors and coming up with your preferred boom lift, the last thing you want is to hire it only to discover none of your operators can work on it. At the basic level, operators of any aerial access equipment need to have an EWPA yellow card. Make sure your operators have any other advanced qualifications if required.
