Portable Construction Site Buildings Explained

Posted on

Each construction project is unique whether it is the building design or the size and scope of the construction works that differs. These days, most construction projects will require some sort of temporary site buildings to be hired whether it is to provide shelter, offer sanitation or to meet that authority's health and safety expectations. Indeed, project managers may see their transportable building hire needs change as the site develops from the groundworks stage to construction, so different sorts of buildings may be needed. What are the various types of portable construction site buildings that are available nowadays and how can they be used?

Canteens

Sometimes also referred to as lunch rooms, portable canteens are available to hire in a number of dimensions to suit the site's needs. Providing a safe and comfortable environment for construction workers to take a break, portable canteens can be fully equipped with tables and bench chairs as well as a washing up stand and a water cooler station, if wanted. Installed within minutes, they are often hooked up to power and water to provide the perfect midday shelter. Some even come with integrated air-conditioning.

Site Offices

Often required to offer workers the chance to view plans or to converse with foremen, a site office is an essential on many building projects. A typical size for a site office is 6 metres by 3 metres, but many that are available to hire are modular and can, therefore, be doubled or quadrupled in size by placing them together. Key features include a secure locking mechanism, security grilles over the windows and a wall-mounted notice board for placing announcements and schedules.

Changing Rooms

Like site offices, changing rooms are often modular so that as many workers can get changed simultaneously as is needed on the site. As well as safety essentials like a fire extinguisher, a changing room should come with bench seats, coat hooks and lockers that allow workers to stow away personal items in confidence before spending the day on the site.

First Aid Stations

On large construction sites, it may be a requirement to have a dedicated first aid station in situ. These sort of portable construction site buildings are often hired out for major public events as well as the construction industry and are used for things like music festivals. Equipped with an examination table, seating and air-conditioning, they need running water which can be heated within the temporary building to provide adequate sanitation.
